Solo Sails: Navigating the High Seas Alone

Have you been considering a solo cruise? If so, you are in the right place as I offer a few tips from my personal solo cruising experiences.

  1. Choose the Right Cruise: Few things are more frustrating to solo travelers than the dreaded double occupancy rule. Some cruise lines now offer options for solo travelers, realizing the popularity of solo cruising.  Norwegian Cruise Line prioritizes solo travelers with daily meet-ups. Norwegian offers solo studio cabins on select ships. These cabins have private access to a restricted solo lounge. The cruise line now offers other cabin types with access to the solo lounge.

  2. Be Open to Socializing:  Remember a solo cruise is not the same as a singles cruise. You will find a wide range of fellow solo travelers from all walks of life and relationship statuses. Take advantage of the solo meetups, who knows you may make a few new friends along the way.

  3. Safety First: Familiarize yourself with the ships layout and what to do in the event of an emergency. Always carry identification with you, keep cabin door locked. Be aware of your surroundings, especially while exploring ports of call.

  4. Plan Ahead: Research your destinations, shore excursions, and onboard activities in advance. This ensures that you make the most of your time and don't miss out on any must-see attractions.

  5. Embrace Alone Time: Use solo cruising as an opportunity for self-reflection and relaxation. Enjoy the ship's amenities like the spa, fitness center, or quiet lounges. Relax and recharge.
